The Art Group was the name of a design studio founded by Hector and Octavio Huerta. Hector worked for 12 years with Fred Kopp on the Rexall account. Octavio worked for Universal Studios on movie ads and advertising. Carlos Huerta joined the firm later.
All of the Huerta brothers attended Art Center at various times. Hector and Octavio went in the early 1950s. Carlos went to Chouinard Art Institute for 3 years, and finished at Art Center. Carlos always boasted about being hired without a portfolio.
The Huerta brother's Cinco de Mayo parties were legendary. They invited their clients and friends from the design community. Those parties were the biggest bash in town. The Art Group did exceptional work, and was one of the largest design studios in Los Angeles, with clients such as: Tyco, Knotts Berry Farm, Ora Wheat, Neslie's, Rancho California,
and the 1986 Olympics. They also won many awards, and had long client relationships.
The Huerta brothers bought their own building in 1980, and changed their name to Huerta Design Associates. Huerta Design continued to do quality work until several years ago when they ceased operations. |
