OVERVIEW

Graphic Design is traditionally defined as problem solving on a flat two-dimensional surface. New fields of Web Design and motion graphics expand the field into 3-D and time-based 4-D applications. New media designers sometimes refer tot hemselves as "information architects" referring to the importance of organizations heirarchy.

Applying the art of graphic design requires principles and practices that include the design process; research, thumbnails, roughs, comprehensive, presentations and delivery. There are many careers for the graphic designer in studios, in-house, ad agencies, as freelancers and other new opportunities as changes in in the field continue to evolve.

Design education is a lifetime activity. It is a field that is tied to technology and as technology changes so too does graphic design. We are in the Information Age because our current society is based on processing information more than producing goods.
