ORGANIZATION

Organizing is a vital part of your work process. Project folders are for keeping your project files organized. This will help you locate your files when you need to save or open them. You need to get into the habit of purchasing one external storage device for each class. For some classes, you may need more than one. For your work, you must set project folders for every project you are given. You can save images, illustrations, digital roughs, diffent project versions, the final project version, fonts, images and email correspondence there. For multiple class subjects or clients a main folder for each may be required. In addition, a physical folder or binder with dividers should be created to hold all paper documents; contracts, change orders, time sheets, thumbnails, etc... A project folder may look like the following diagram.

Instructions
Put your name on every external storage device and include client name as well as the date. In the disk, create folders for the different sections and/or projects you will be assigned. Create sub-folders to continue keeping your work organized. The following is an example of how your folders should be set up on your hard drive and on your back up device.

Naming Files
Naming conventions include giving files unique names that indicate contents or the type of object. Give files names that help others recognize the contents of the file.
:: Use lowercase letters with uppercase (capital) letters. (see example)
:: Use a hyphen (-) or an underscore (–) instead of spaces.
:: Use letters and numbers.
